Janardhan Temple: This temple dedicated to lord Vishnu is believed to be over 2000 year old. The temple located on Beach Road is believed to have been built by the Pandyan King. Although non-Hindus are not allowed to enter the inner sanctum of the temple, they are able to walk around the temple and the huge banyan tree where the shrines of Ayappa, Hanuman and other Hindu deities are situated.

Anjengo Fort: Located just near Varkala is the main garrison of the Dutch East India Company. The fort was constructed to protect the powerful position of the Dutch company in the state.
Sivagirri Mutt: This is the headquarter of Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham trust. The ashram is devo
ted to ‘Shri Narayana Guru’, who was a leading social reformer of Kerala. He founded an organization for the upliftment of lower classes, this is spread over 200 acres of land, the area encompasses the guru’s residence and a temple dedicated to Saraswati website : www.sivagiri.org . Time 5:30 a.m. – noon & 4:30 -7:00 p.m.
Yoga and Messages Centre : There are numerous places which acts Yoga and massage centers. However there are two places to practice yoga in the area ‘The Scientific School of Yoga & Massage’ and ‘Progress Yoga Centre’, both located on the cliff top area, and considered great options to learn Yoga or Ayurvedic treatment. The Beach : If you are here in Varkala, the beach is your foremost priority. The ‘Papanahsam’ beach is a crescent shaped beach at the south end, along the red laterite cliffs .Thiruvambady Beach is at the north end of the cliff with its black sand beach. The main hub , with local restaurants and shopping, smack in the middle of these two beaches. The beaches at Varkala provide opportunities to laze around boogie board or play the local game of ‘cricket’. However , during the evenings the tide can get really big and its best advised to exercise caution , especially during late evenings and nights. |
