Varanasi has always been known as one of the premier centre for some of the finest handicrafts in the country.
The city is renowned for its craft of ‘silk weaving’. ‘Banarasi Sarees’, as these sarees produced by craftsmen are fondly known as are very famous in India. It forms a part of every bride’s wedding trousseau.

Brassware, Copperware, Wooden and Clay toys and precious stones and exquisite jewelry.
The city is also famous for its hand – knotted carpets --- Mirzapur and Bhadohi. Another specialty of the city is Betel leaves. These are generally eaten by locals in form of “Paan” with condiments rolled into it.
The main shopping areas are confined to Chowk, Vishwanath Gali, Gadoulia and Dashwamedh Gali.
Night Life :
Well even though there is not much of nightlife in Varanasi, there are numbers of ways to keep one self busy.
You can catch on Indian movies at the theatres, or join a course on Yoga, music or language.
There is regular musical performance at the International Music Centre Ashram, near the Dasaswamedh Ghat, on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
