Kovalam
Kovalam beach is just 15 kms from the city. This little village is a picture perfect tropical beach and is very popular with tourists. With plenty of accommodations and ayurvedic treatment centres along with fresh fish, fruit and toddy the village attracts travelers from all over.

Varkala
Another small beach town with sun, sand, food and Ayurvedic treatment aplenty, although the town is also a local Hindu Pilgrimage stop with the 12th century Janardhana temple, however the laidback, relaxed and nice beaches have in recent time started attracting a lot of tourists. Varkala is about 55kms from the Thiruvananthapuram airport or 2 hr car ride from the city, 1 hour from Kollam or 4 hrs from Kochi.
