MG Road is the main area for shopping. The area near the Fort also provides one with ample shopping opportunities.
The state run SMSM Institute in Thiruvananthapuram showcases exclusive Kerala handicrafts. Located near the Government Secretariat, SMSM is one of the state run corporation’s chain of exclusive showrooms “Kairali”.
Out here you will find a wide range of handicrafts, miniatures, sculptures in rosewood and sandalwood, carvings, accessories for the home and the quintessential travel souvenirs.
Eating Out And Restaurants :
Seafood, South Indian food, filter coffee and the experience of eating on a Banyan leaf is all part of experiencing the foods of Kerala. There are lots of restaurants on M G Road to try out. Most of the big hotels have options for fine dining.
Night Life :
Evening in Kerala is best spent watching a Kathakali performance. Located about a 2 Kms from the city station, you can catch a performance of Kathakali in an ethnic atmosphere at Margi- Valiyasala or Margi –Fort.
The institution was started in 1970 by a noted theatre enthusiast. You can enjoy performances of some of the major art forms of Kerala like Kootiyattam, Nangyarkoothu, Chakyarkoothu, Paatakoom (all temple art forms) and Kathakali at Valiyasala branch. The branch at Fort is only devoted for Kathakali.
A ‘Kalarippayattu’ ( traditional martial art) performance is another source of entertainment while in the city.
