The main purpose of people’s visit to Sawai Madhopur is Ranthambore National park.
Apart from the National Park, the Ranthambhore Fort serves as the other attraction for the town. The Fort which is believed to date back to 10th century is a huge structure standing in midst of growing vegetation. km circumference is well worth for the views it offers. The Fort also houses a Ganesh Temple at the top, which hosts ‘Aarti’ (prayer) every evening.
Ranthambhore National Park:
The Park came in existence in 1980. Although a favorite hunting ground before
being turned into a National park, today it is one of the best places in India to spot Tiger in wild. Although the Park has gone through its own tribulations in recent past with cases of poaching and failed conservation, the park also plays host to Leopards, Sloth, Bears, Hyenas, Wolves, Jackals, Sambhar and Indian crocs.
The place is also famous for the 360 species of migratory birds that come from Europe and Siberia to Surwal Lake, 35 kms away, during winter.
The park has a varied landscape with ancient monuments around the lakes. There is also the legendary Jogi Mahal, which although out of bounds for visitors, but provides picturesque view with pink & white lilies pond in the fore front.
The best time to visit the park is between October and April. The park is closed during the months of July, August and September. Only a restricted
Numbers of jeep and canter entries are allowed in the park everyday. So book in advance.
