Enveloped with beaches, Puri is one of the four holiest places in India. It is essentially one of the four cardinal “Peetham’s”, also called the holy “dhams” of Hinduism which include- Dwarka, Rameswaram, Badrinath and of course Puri. Puri was established by Sri Adi Shankaracharya. A myth which is quite believed-in ardently is that if one stays here for three days and nights one attains salvation, that is, freedom from the cycle of births and re-births.
Puri is one place where divinity seems to be the driving force. There is certainly divinity in terms of religion and also, none the less, divinity in terms of the exotic beaches.
Bhubaneswar is also located in the district of Puri and is the capital of Orissa. Puri is located on the coast of the Bay of Bengal and engulfs majority of the Asia’s largest freshwater lake, the Chilika Lake.
A point worth mentioning is the glorious history accompanied with various twists of the Kingdom of Kalinga. One of the famous twists was that the Kalinga war led Emperor Ashoka embrace non-violence and he was later instrumental in disseminating Buddhist teachings all over Asia.
