Depending on where you are staying, either at the sanctuary or outside the sanctuary will determine your options for dining.
At the sanctuary there is Periyar house, Aranya Niwas and Lake Palace. There are also rest-houses where you need to bring your own food which then is prepared by the cooks at the rest-house. |

The observation towers provide very basic amenities and can very well be avoided for better options. Outside the sanctuary there are hotels that have good restaurants. Try Spice Village, Taj Garden Retreat, Hotel Tree Top and others on Thekaddy Road.

Shalimar Spice Garden
Located about 7Kms from Kumili, this spice garden off Kottayam road offers luxury cottages to stay and enjoy the surroundings and make use of their Ayurvedic treatments. There is also a restaurant that serves Indian and Italian food.
Carmelia Heaven
For a tree house abode set forth to this place. Located 20 Kms from Kumili on the Munnar road this place is all set to dazzle you.
How to Get Here :
Buses are the best option to get to Periyar. Kumili is the main bus station, however there are also buses that start and finish at Periyar. In Periyar Aranya Niwas is where you can get off or board buses from.
Buses to Ernakulum take 6 hrs, Thiruvananthapuram is 8 hrs away, and Kovalam is 9 hrs and kottayam 4 hrs.
Getting Around the City
From Kumili you can get to Periyar by foot, by auto-rickshaw or by bicycle. It’s not very far and can be an enjoyable ride or walk of less than 4 Kms.
