Kovalam beach represents a typical beach market scenario. There are numerous stores around selling handicrafts (Tibetan, Kashmiri and Rajasthani), clothes (customized and made to order) books and antiques. You will also find general stores that will take care of your daily needs.
At the beach you will find vendors selling beachwear, hats, batik sarongs, beach mats etc; the usual beach stuff. |

Eating Out and Restaurants :
In a beach town like Kovalam the options for eating out are immense. The beach area is full of open–air restaurant catering all forms of meals from breakfast to dinner.
Evening stroll spent around the beachfront will introduce you to ‘live cooking’. All forms of sea food preparations are done in front of the guests. Tandoori, fried or grilled ,you can choose your method of preparation. The place is competitive so there is always room for haggling.
Elsewhere there are mid-range and top-end hotels and restaurants. The restaurant at ‘Jeevan Ayurvedic Beach Resort’ is unique as it has an open air terrace fringed by palms with splendid views of the sea.
‘Fusion Restaurant and Coffee bar’ is another popular place and during the season you might be better off booking in advance. At the end in Kovalam you will find enough places with interesting eats and decor just do try the ‘Tiger Prawns’ – they are really big!
Nightlife :
Nightlife is limited to a Kathakali performance or just going out for dinners or a drink. However, the beachfront is a different story. Even though the party scene is not like Goa, the restaurants around the beach are lively to catch a drink; people watch and enjoy some live music, in case there happens to be one. A restaurant with a roof top view will enable you to enjoy the sun-setting over the Arabian Sea and people clapping and rejoicing the view.
