Lodurva
A beautiful township, once a capital of Rawal Jaisal, is 16 kms. northwest from Jaisalmer. It is now in ruins but one of the main hubs of Jainism. Some of the most beautiful intricate carvings in yellow stone temples exist here. Toran (ornate architecture) & an artificial divine tree (Kalptaroo) are the main attraction here. Sam Sand Dunes
42 km away from Jaisalmer, is where you see the real Thar desert, just at the border of Pakistan. Beautiful designs patterns are created on the dunes by sandy storms. Safari camps are arranged on this desert on camel backs. It is a magical experience to be lying under an open sky but just watch-out for scorpions and desert snakes if you want to adventure out.
Desert National Park
The inhabitants of the park are Blackbuck, Chinkara, Wolf, Indian fox, Desert Fox, Hare and Desert Cat. Blue tailed and Green Bee-eaters, Drongos, common and Bush Quail and Indian rollers are the birds which are commonly found around waterholes .You can also find the great Indian Bustard which is near to extinction. Rocks, pavements and compact salt lake bottoms make 20% of the park.
Akal Wood Fossil Park
17 kms from Jaisalmer, holds a natural flora and fauna’s fossils that are estimated to be around 160 million years old. These fossils are quite rare.
Godi Sagar Lake
In the south of the city walls, lies this tank, surrounded by temples and shrines that supplied water to the city. The beautiful yellow sandstone gateway arching across the road down to the tank is the Tilon-ki-Pol, and is said to have been built by a famous prostitute, Tilon. Tilon who was refused the permission to build by the King. But when the King was away, the gate was constructed by Tilon and Lord Krishna's temple was built on top of it so as to save it from being sabotaged by the King.
Bada Baag
Is situated 6 kms. North of Jaisalmer, have royal cenotaphs with carvings of past Maharawals & their families. The Chhatris were built with a set-pattern and type face but in different sizes each keeping a record of the Maharawal’s death tablets. On the other side are orchards of these cenotaphs are the orchards.
Pokran
Is a fort town not as large as Sonar Kila & Mehrangarh Fort, however, Pokran has a museum of weaponry, brocade clothes and various games of dice and dominos on display. Fort Pokran also offers hotel accommodation. It actually got famous as the site for India nuclear detonation.
