Quarter of the population still lives in the fort with 99 bastions around their boundary. The narrow lanes with shopkeepers selling beautiful embroidered cloth, Jutes, hanging lanterns, contrast colored turbans to traditional women wear “Lhenga Choli” adds a drama of passion and a romantic royal experience just walking down the cobbled street fort.

The movie “Sonar Kila” of Satyajit Ray was inspired from here. The fort looks like a mirage of a golden yellow honey droplet by the setting sun giving it a name of (Golden Fort). It’s a spectacular picturesque sight to capture.

Nathmal Ji Ki Haveli:
The rich merchant’s residents are called as “Haveli”. This Haveli was constructed in the 19th century by two architect brothers both working on left and right of the wings bringing in the synchronized carving blending in two distinctive styles unanimously to create an awe-inspiring structure with powerful tuskers carved out of yellow sandstone stand guarding the Haveli and even the front door is a piece of art.

Salim Singh Ki Haveli:
The Haveli is just below the hill and was built 300 years ago. Salim Singh was a prime minister of Jaisalmer. It is said that he wanted his Haveli to be as high as the Maharaja’s palace and so he added two wooden storey's which were removed by the king eventually. But this is one of the prettiest Haveli carved out with attractive peacock brackets, a beautifully blue cupola arched roof and an exquisite projecting balcony adorning the top-story.

Patwon-ki-Haveli:
In a narrow lane stands most elaborate Haveli in Jaisalmer. There are remnants of paintings on the interiors as well as some mirror work. It has five storeys divided into six apartments extensively carved. Built by Guman Chand Patwa a wealthy merchant and banker who had over three hundred trading centers from Afghanistan to China, took 50 years to complete  with the construction been followed later by his five sons.

Jain Temples:
Jains and Rajputs lived harmoniously like hand in glove. Jains being rich financers to Rajputs were given the liberty to spread and build their religious temples in and around Jaisalmer.

The Parswanath temple is oldest and one of the most stunning temple of Jainism. A tall shikhar, is crowned by an amalak and a waterpot containing a lotus flower with the ramparts of the sanctum carved with animal and human figures.
