+ EATING & DRINKING TIPS

Drinking :

Probably the most important drinking tip on India is to always ‘drink’  ‘Mineral Water’. One should never drink water that is not bottled . It is  very important to order ‘Bottled Mineral  water’ even in specialty  restaurants  unless they serve  that as normal  water (rare but  can check with waiter  in specialty  on five star restaurants)

Mineral water is  widely  available everywhere from  local cigarette  vendor  to grocery  stress, etc, everyone, keeps it.‘Mineral water’ is also commonly known as ‘Bisleri’ (after the name of the company that introduced bottled mineral water in India).
Eating and Drinking Tips

Drinking alcohol is generally not permitted on the streets or in open, but the rules are definitely not as strict as in western countries. Legally you need to be 21 years old to drink alcohol or enter pubs and discotheques. However this age limit is largely in theory and not practiced, unless you look really  young (read as under 16).Drinking in restaurants and pubs is relatively expensive ($5 for a large rum or vodka, or beer) as opposed to buying at the liquors stores. There are special ‘liquors stores’ to buy alcohol from. Local grocery stores are not allowed to keep alcohol. These special alcohol shops or ‘Liquour stores’ are commonly called ‘Theka’.

Some of the widely known beer brands in the country are Kingfisher, Sand Piper, Royal challenge, Thunderbolt, Godfather, Strohs and Fosters.

‘Rum’ is another favorite drink with ‘Old Monk’ being the most renowned dark rum in the country. ‘Bacardi’ is also available but being more than twice as expensive as ‘Old Monk’, it is still considered an elite drink.

Recently there has been upswing in wine drinking, especially amongst  the elite and more educated. The Indian wine, coming mostly from the state of Maharashtra is more widely available than any foreign brands. ‘Sula’, ‘Grovers’ and “Riviera” are the more popular brands available.

‘Whiskey’ perhaps is the most widely consumed alcohol in India ‘Royal’ Challenge’ is the maximum sold whiskey brand in the country.

Other famous brands are ‘Teachers’ (on higher end), ‘Antiquity’, ‘Blenders Pride’, ‘100 piper’s’, ‘Signature’ and ‘Mc Dowell’s single Malt’.www.tulleeho.com is site that will provide you with elaborate view of the Indian liqour market and the drinking scene around the country
