Fairs and Festivals : |
Though no reason is needed to celebrate in Goa and neither there is a dearth of festive spirit amongst the people here yet there are some days which mark a reason enough for the People of Goa to further indulge in high spirits.
Fest dos Reis
Celebrated on the 6th of January, this day carries out a procession of young boys impersonating the three kings to the chapel |

of Reis Magos near Panjim.
Carnival
Takes place in February/March. It is a three days feni induced festivity.
Shigmo
Takes place in Feb/March. It is the Goan version of a Hindu festival
Holi. Dance,
drama, floats, lively crowd, are just a small part of this
festival, the major part being the happiness and the festive spirit of
people.
All Saints
Takes place in March and on the fifth Monday 26 effigies of saints, popes, martyrs, kings, queens and cardinals are paraded. A fair also marks this day.
Sanjuan
The festival of St John is celebrated all over Goa and falls on the 24th of June.
Igitun Chaine
Takes place in May, where the devotees of Goddess Lairya walk over hot coals at the village of Sirigao.
Christmas
Late night celebrations accompanied with music, dance and fireworks are a part of this worldwide celebrated day which is the 25th of December. Masses are organized at different churches where one can witness people singing carols. The entire city is lighted up and Christmas trees are a regular feature in every household.
