the Goans wear and talk, and can be tasted in the way they cook their food.

Alcohol is very much available and is enjoyed by majority. There are six thousand bars here that are licensed to serve it. Beer is extremely cheap. Feni, a traditional drink, made of cashew nuts or coconut sap is also quite popular.

Goa has always made an effort to keep its individual identity, which is quite evident from the fact that in 1980’s a campaign was started to have Konkani as their official language, which was eventually made in 1992.

The history of Goa too has some interesting facts attached to it. Before Portuguese Goa belonged to the Kadamba. With 1540’s came the inquisition, after which laws were made censoring and banning any faith other than Catholicism. Hindu temples were destroyed and finally in 1820 the much dreaded inquisition was banished.

The credit of much liberated post independence success of free Goa goes to the Indian government when Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru gave orders to the Indian army who ran over Goa and there after Goa became a part of India as a Union Territory.
