Goa still has the essence of Portuguese in the mannerisms of people, their names and of course the food. Palm vinegar, which is not so popular in other parts of India, is one of the chief ingredients of the Goan food. Coconut is very liberally used along with garlic. Vindaloo is quite popular which is a thick curry made with meat and fish. The pork cuisines include Chourico red sausages, sorpotel, leitao and balchao. Seafood is quite relished here. This includes clams, lobster, mussels, crab and prawns. |

As far as the dessert goes Bebinca, a coconut based egg custard makes you drool.
The lower tax rate here makes beer, wine and spirits very cheap. Feni, a local drink, made from distilled cashew or from the coconut sap is very popular and is chosen over the other drinks not only because it’s a local tradition but also it’s cheaper.
