Due to its locational advantage, Delhi forms the hub of most of the India travel activity .Delhi Side trips can be classified into two broad categories: the first being the usual places that also fall on Tourist Map and others are the weekend getaways that can take you to nearby, not so touristy places.

Chandigarh ,Mussorie, Dehradun ,Nainital , Jhansi , Orchha all fall in the radius of 5 hour drive from New Delhi. These are primarily tourist places and one or more of these destinations are generally included in the quintessential Indian traveler’s itinerary. The second section of Delhi Side trips will comprise of those places that are a little offbeat or perhaps more conducive for a getaway retreat rather than being a prime tourist destination. The options for this section of Sidetrips from New Delhi are discussed below.
Alwar
Alwar city is roughly about 160 Kms. from Delhi and also forms the administrative capital of the Alwar district. This small town of Rajasthan, located 150 Kms from Jaipur, is known for its picturesque valley, lakes and old buildings. The city is well connected via train from Delhi. Some of the attractions in and around Alwar include The Fort ( Bala Quila) ,The Palace complex( Vinay Vilas Mahal) , A government museum , Vijai Mandir Palace ( 10 Kms.) , Siliserh Lake ( 13 Kms) , Kesroli village ( 12 Kms.) and Sariska Sanctuary ( 40 Kms.)
Shivpuri
An exciting white water rafting adventure tour will take you to Shivpuri,about 260 Kms away from Delhi or roughly 25 Kms. from Rishikesh. With options to run through various grades of rafting the place also offers opportunities for kayaking, trekking and bird-watching .
Pushkar
About 6 hours train ride from Delhi to Ajmer and another half hour drive to Pushkar, this small holy town in Rajasthan has a unique blend of spirituality amidst a small town set-up without the hustle bustle .
Although popular on tourist map , the place beckons every traveler as sometimes people might overlook the fact that this place is easily doable over a weekend and provides a much relaxing ambience and experience.

This small town just 3 ½ hours from Delhi is the perfect little place to engage in some bird –watching.
