|
Introduction : |
‘New Delhi’ also commonly referred as “Delhi”, is the capital of India.
Delhi’s place in the Indian history is depicted in its architectural heritage. Even today you can see the glimpses of history in its various monuments (or what’s left of it) present around the city.
Delhi also assumes importance for being the political hub of the country. However, this does not take away any thing from the city |

for being a cultural hotspot as well as fashion capital for the country. Moreover, Delhi forms a major travel gateway. Most of the tourist entering into India would more often than not enter the country through New Delhi. It also forms the main stop for the North India travel network.
Even though not many travelers coming into India have much of good things to say about Delhi, the city still holds the interest of many of the travelers. New Delhi offers a mix of old and new, which in a way depicts the country as a whole.
Delhi has a long and fascinating history and there are plenty of things to see.
There are structures in every nook and corner that speak of Delhi’s heritage .There are cultural happenings all over the town that shout out for its deep-seated root.
The city itself, from a tourist perspective to travel, is divided in two parts Old Delhi and New Delhi. Old Delhi is what used to the old capital during the Mughal era. It is characterized by its old houses, narrow lanes, bustling and crowded market. It also encompasses the Red Fort and Jama Masjid in its domain. Chandni Chowk is the main market, famous for its wholesale shop and wedding clothes shops. This part of the city is now much connected via Metro train and much of the hard journey can be cut short by just taking the Metro from CP ( Connaught Place) to Darya Ganj (from where you need to get on a Rickshaw to get to Chandni Chowk).
New Delhi or the newer part of Delhi ( which is bigger part of the present Delhi ) is where most of the new activity takes place with fine restaurants and bars, shopping and urban population. This part of Delhi has its own attraction for the tourist. New Delhi forms the greatest part of what we know of Delhi as today. The Southern part of Delhi boasts of its own heritage with monuments such as Qutub Minar, Akshardham Temple, Chatarpur Temples, and Humayun’s Tomb.
Delhi as a city is really spread out. ‘Metro’ being a new addition can come in handy to move around if you have to commute from far west or east of Delhi. Buses are tightly packed and do not form the most desirable form of transportation in the city. To rent a car is perhaps the best choice you can make for comfort and security.
