Tips and Comments : |
1. Every city has its own culture, traditions and customs. Bangalore, too, has its own distinct personality and way of life. If you are an out-of-town visitor arriving in Bangalore for the first time, there are certain things you need to know.
2. Indian food tends to be spicy-ask before you order.
3. Keep away from betting video arcades, |

|
pool parlors and bowling alleys. Betting here is illegal and if you play for wager (against our advice), watch out for sharks.
4.
Avoid taking buses to local places.
5.
Drink plenty of mineral water or aerated drinks. (Or beer!)
6.
In restaurants and hotels, tips are pooled and shared by all working staff. Be generous - most service people run their lives on tips more than salaries. When in doubt, 10% will do nicely.
7.
Asking for a discount is part of the shopping experience. Prices are more or less fixed at most places. However, when shopping on the streets, bargaining is an expected and enjoyable pastime.
8.
In case you may want to return or exchange something you bought, please remember to keep your purchase bills.
9.
Carry lots of change (pennies) with you-it will always come handy.
10. Please dress informally. Skimpily dressed women (no matter how normal by western standards) will be stared at. Wear jeans or skirts and you won’t feel uncomfortable.
11. A special tip for South India: In most homes, it is important to take the shoes off before entering. Similarly, in temples, no footwear is allowed.
12. Bars close at 11pm (last orders 10:30 pm). Some restaurants stay open till midnight. Eating out after pub closing is best in a 24-hour coffee shop in the bigger hotels.
13. Please do not entertain beggars.
