Mysore
A couple of hours away from Bangalore, (140 km from Bangalore) Mysore was the old capital of the Mysore Maharaja during an era of splendor and riches. Visit the Palace, Zoo and Chamundi Hills. It serves as the base camp for trips to Bandipur / Nagarhole. Tour Guide buses, taxis easily available.
Sravanabelagola
170 km from Bangalore, Sravanabelagoa is a famous Jain Pilgrim centre. There is a 17 meter statue of Lord Bahubali, said to be the world's tallest monolithic statue.

Hampi
353 km from Bangalore,Hampi is the former capital of the Vijayanagara Kingdom. Vast relics of the empire can be seen here. If you happen to be there during the festival season, you could be luck to witness some of the most magnificent art and cultural performances by well-known artists.
It is advisable to travel by train to Hampi.
Belur/Halebid
220 km from Bangalore, this is an old temple in soapstone with extraordinary carvings on the outer walls, pillars and doorways. It dates back to the Hoysala Kingdom.
Again, for the history lovers!
Bandipur/Nagarhole
240 km from Bangalore, these are natural forests. Excellent for overnight/weekend stays. Touring inside jungle is arranged.
The best time to visit is between October-May.
Kokrebellur
Between Channapatna and Maddur on Mysore road, it is a natural bird sanctuary. Painted storks and pelicans can be seen here. It is an excellent picnic spot.
Best time to visit is between January-June.
Nilgiris
About 7 hrs from Bangalore. 2240 meters above sea level, Nilgiri means ‘blue mountains.’ Ooty, Coonoor and Wellington are hill stations to be visited.
It would be fun to travel by the miniature train with its toothed central rail!
Kodaikanal
About 14 hrs from Bangalore. 2100 meters above sea level, what is interesting here is boating, horse riding and long walks.
Coorg
300 Kms from Bangalore, Coorg is known as the ‘Scotland of India.’ It is a picturesque hill station famous for its coffee estates and hospitable people. Not densely populated, it is suitable for long walks, jogging, trekking and camping. Do not miss this if you like natural beauty of the hills.
Nandi Hills
About 59 km from Bangalore, Nandi hills are 4850 feet above sea level. Good for picnics or daytime getaway. It is best to see them in the early morning.
Mekedatu
About 95 km from Bangalore, Mekedatu means 'Goat's Leap.' It is a narrow gorge made by the river Cauvery. Good for day long picnic.
Ensure you have you own transportation and food –especially beer!
Hogenakal
About 183 km from Bangalore, Hogenakal are Waterfalls . The word literally means 'Smoking Rock'. This is a very picturesque spot with entertaining coracle boat rides.
A word of caution: Tends to be crowded and messy.
