Shopping : |
There are several places within the city where one could spend time shopping. The shops are tourist-friendly (check the silks - most of the country’s silk comes from this city).
These markets also have emporiums that display authentic handicrafts by often unlettered and self-taught craftsmen. You may kill two birds with one stone: enhance rural employment and own some exquisite |

stuff! All the more reason to buy clothes, handicraft items and artifacts.
Markets
Central Bangalore, (the M G Road, Brigade Road and Commercial Street area taken together), is a great place where one could wander, or shop. While you
are shopping, you may want to try the local, absolutely safe roasted nuts and corn. In local parlance, this activity is called "time pass."
Apart from the ones mentioned, there are a few market areas, wholesale districts that make wandering more interesting.
Russel Market:
Shivajinagar, 0700-2100 Open daily.
A colonial vegetable and meat market also features shops around it, which sell antiques and bric- a-brac.
City Market:
The Chickpet area is an old wholesale bazaar that offers all sorts of shops including the country’s biggest silk wholesale / retail district.
A word of caution: Please be aware of the crowd and your surroundings.
