Shiva Statue
This is an awesome 65 feet high depiction of Lord Shiva, the Destroyer (according to the Hindu trinity of Creator, Protector and Destroyer) seated in Lotus position. It has the backdrop of Mount Kailash, the Lord's heavenly abode, with the river Ganga flowing from his matted locks as depicted in the Hindu mythology.
Bull Temple
Where there is Shiva, can His vahana or Holy vehicle be far behind? As is the case with Hindu symbols, Nandi, too, is a symbol of all the animal qualities such as aggression, restlessness etc being submissive to, and under the control of the Lord. At Basavangudi is one of Bangalore's oldest temples, the "Bull Temple". Built for Nandi, the vehicle of Lord Shiva, this temple has a 4.6 meter tall carved statue of the sacred Bull.

Seshadri Iyer Memorial hall
This memorial hall houses the State Central Library. It has a rich collection of reference books. It is open from 0830 hrs through 1900 hrs, everyday except on Mondays.
Gandhi Bhavan
Gandhi Bhavan displays the life of the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi. One finds pictures of the leader and photocopies of his letters.
Gandhi, or Bapu, as he was called, was largely responsible for India’s independence through complete non-violence. A place not to be missed if one wanted to know what made the leader great.
Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium
Befitting the "science city" title that it carries, the Planetarium is an interesting site for children. English shows are held daily at 1630 Hrs.
Bannerghatta National Park
The "Bannerghatta National Park" is a dry deciduous forest with an abundant variety of trees such as Neem, Sandal, Tamarind, Jalari, etc. Bannerghatta National Park is inhabited by the Asian Elephants, leopards, Sloth Bears, Chital, Sambar, Monitor Lizards, Pangolin, Vipers, Cobras, Macaques, Porcupines, Mongoose, etc. A lot of bird species are also to be found in this park.
(Please note: Only department vehicles are allowed to tour inside the sanctuary.
The best time to visit the park is between September and October. (Timings: 0900 hrs to 1200 hrs, 1400 hrs to 1700 hrs, closed on Tuesdays).

The Big Banyan Tree
About 25 Kms from the city, this tree branches cover 3 acres! It is, indeed, an awesome tree. A very good place for picnics. You will find liquor store/bars nearby.
(A word of caution: It is crowded on Sundays.)
Nrityagram Dance Village
For those interested in and intrigued by the Indian dance forms, this place is a must-see. The only Dance Village in the world set up for the preservation and popularization of the seven Indian classical dance forms. It was designed by Gerard da Cunha, winner of the Best Rural Architecture Award. It is the home of The Nrityagram Dance Ensemble, described as "one of the most luminous dance events of the year!" by The New York Times. A casual tour costs about Rs. 20 per person. But if you are interested in more than just a tour, then you must go in for a Lecture-Demonstration that would cost you about Rs. 650 per person, for a minimum of four people. This would include a guided tour, lecture-demonstration on classical dance and a vegetarian meal. (Please note: Advance booking is required. A dance performance would cost Rs. 1100 per person for a minimum of ten people. Open 10 am. to 5 pm. Mondays closed.)
