historical and a tourist’s perspective. We suggest a trip to Bangalore should include the following places of interest for any vacation itinerary:.
Bangalore Palace
Built in the year 1887 by the Wodeyar dynasty, Bangalore Palace is quite like some of the medieval castles found in Normandy and England. Its interiors boast of elegant, fine, eye-catching wood carvings and Tudor-style architecture.
Tipu’s Palace
The Palace was started by Hyder Ali and completed by his son Tipu Sultan in 1791. Tipu called it The Envy of Heaven.
It is constructed mainly in wood and has fine, intricately sculpted arches surrounded by exquisite minarets.
A must-see for history aficionados!
Vidhan Soudha
A magnificent post-independence structure housing the State legislature and Secretariat, the majestic Vidhana Soudha stands in the centre of the city with its attractive dome and galleries.
It is a sheer delight to see the illuminated Soudha during nights on Sundays and Holidays.
Do not miss the sight of the illuminated building on Sunday between 7 to 8 pm.
Attara Kacheri
The Attara Kacheri (Kacheri literally means ‘court’), directly opposite to Vidhana Souda is the State High court. This magnificent building was constructed in 1867 in the Gothic Style of architecture.
Venkatappa Art Gallery
No Louvre this, the Venkatappa art gallery is one of the country's oldest art museums. It houses many interesting antiques and archeological objects. You may not want to give it a miss if you understand and appreciate art.
(Please note: It is closed on Wednesdays). Cubbon Park
Need to get away from the grueling hustle-bustle of the city? Take a walk in Cubbon Park in the evening! This beautiful park was laid out in 1864 by Lieutenant General Sir Mark Cubbon. Over 250 acres of this green park is just right for long, meditative walks in the evening!
Incidentally, it also hosts a children's amusement park, a doll museum and a toy train for children.
Lalbagh Gardens
This is another of Bangalore's remaining sprawling parks. Situated in the southern part of the city, the Lalbagh Gardens were laid out in 1760 by the visionary king, Hyder Ali. It spawns over an area of 240 acres.
An interesting feature of these gardens is the ‘Glass House,’ inspired by the Crystal Palace in London. This is a favorite spot in Lalbagh that hosts the famous Flower show during the month of August.
