SKIING

Winter is the time to look forward to for some exciting skiing action.
India has developed some of the most modern and also the resonable ski resorts in the whole world.Among the Himalayan ranges, Narkanda is the place to be if you are looking at skiing. The Hattu peak provides a striking view of the plains below.

Auli offers many slopes that provide excellent opportunities for cross-country and snow-hill skiing events. It is the annual venue for the National Winter Games Championships in February/March. If you are looking for more action you may follow it in Gulmarg, Pithoragarh and Solang valley.

A detailed account of good places to ski in India is given below.

Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir
Gulmarg is the ultimate beginner's skiing resort. Here, one is able to drift to one of the many Ski shops and hire skis, sticks and goggles. The gentlest slope of 200m is linked with a ski lift, which helps one to go up. For those at the intermediate level, the longest ski run is at 2,213m.

Manali, Kufri, Narkanda, Himachal Pradesh
You will always remember the ultimate skiing destinations such as Kufri, Narkanda, Manali in Himachal. The Manali Region has scope for winters as well as summer skiing. It has excellent natural slopes and in the summer months has limited skiing possibilities at Narkanda. Kufri has always been a favourite among ski lovers who visit Shimla in winters.

Auli, Uttarakhand
Snow capped slopes of Auli are abundant in dense deodar forest. Auli offers a 180 panoramic view of Himalayan peaks like the Nanda Devi (7,817m) Kamet (7,756m) Mana Parvat (7,273) and Dunagiri (7,066m) seemingly only a snow ball thrown away. Seasonal skiers have a clean stretch of 10 to 20 kms of virgin slopes to sport on.

Dayara Bugyal, Uttarakhand
Dayara Bugyal provides excellent ski slopes over an area of 28 sq. kms.

Mundali, Uttarakhand
At Mundali, you will be offered an unforgettable view of the snow-capped Himalayas. This place has vast ski slopes, especially for the professional.

Munsiyari, Uttarakhand
Munsyari is the base of treks to Milam, Namik and Ralam glaciers. Khalia Top and Betulidhar are two high altitude places that offer great conditions for skiing.
